Black Radical Congress

Welcome

Sisters and Brothers:

Welcome to the Black Radical Congress, an organization founded in 1998 to forge African American activists and scholars and various black organizations into a national movement to rebuild a left presence in Black America. We need your active participation to do so. We bring together black feminists, revolutionary nationalists, socialists and democrats working for fundamental social change in a patriarchal, white supremacist society. This work is of particular importance in view of the daily events we witness: the quickening pace to put an end to the life of Mumia Abu-Jamal; the international economic crisis and its implications for the Black working class in the USA; struggles in Africa against imperial globalization and for national democracy; the demonization and criminalization of the Black poor and particularly the demonization of Black women and youth. This situation cries out for resistance, and an organized fightback led by those who hail from the tradition of Black radicalism.

On this website, you will find several documents. We suggest you read the
Principles of Unity, which defines our orientation and the Freedom Agenda, which outlines the components of the humane and equitable world we envision. If you agree with this perspective, we ask that you join the BRC by filling out the membership form and returning it to the address below. Only paid members are allowed to vote on the critical questions that come before the BRC or to help determine our programmatic priorities.

Since its founding two years ago, the BRC has grown to include members states across the country, organized in Local Organizing Committees (LOC). Slowly, but surely, we are building a united front of disparate political and class forces united on a common program of struggle. That program is encapsulated in our current national campaign:
Education Not Incarceration, Fight The Police State, which can soon be found on this website.

We invite you to join the BRC! We need active members, active organizational affiliates and national members that support the work of the BRC. The Black Radical Congress cannot succeed in its historic task if it does not have active members within organizing committees, as well as organizations with whom we are affiliated. HELP BUILD THE BLACK RADICAL CONGRESS and a Liberation Agenda for the 21st Century!
